Poplar Bridge has many volunteer opportunities during the school day throughout the year. A small commitment with a big impact!
Assist in guiding students in and out of the lunchroom during their scheduled lunch time (10:55am-1:00pm.)
Help children move through the picture line, straighten clothing, and make sure their faces are clean.
Assist the Media Center Director with shelving books and helping with special projects as they arise.
Help our staff by assisting with their copying needs. Items that need to be copied will be placed in a specific “inbox” throughout the week. Copies can be made on day(s) of your choice during the school day.
Committees work together to organize and execute various PTA events. Use your leadership skills and be a part of a committee!
The Boosterthon Fun Run raises funds for our entire year's budget! Students have a blast being a part of the Boosterthon programming. Help coordinate the event, fill up water cups, mark shirts, and cheer on all our students!
Encourage a love of reading while raising funds for our Media Center! We host 2 book fairs every year. Assist with setup, take down, checkout, and reshelving books.
Create, plan and schedule events that foster connections within the school community and beyond.
Help recognize and celebrate teachers and staff at Poplar Bridge by planning activities for appreciation days and coordinating meals for teacher conferences.
VEAP is a basic needs and social services organization in Bloomington whose programs promote access to healthy foods, stable housing and other supportive services. This district-wide food drive helps VEAP stock their shelves for those in need.
The VEAP committee helps to encourage participation by setting the goal and theme for the year, and delivering donations to the food pantry. Paired with Spirit Week, this event is fun and impactful.
Organize the activities, supplies, and volunteers for this beloved event in the spring.
Organize, choose designs, and sell Poplar Bridge clothing throughout the school year. Help the Poplar Bridge community show their Polar Pride!
The Student Directory Committee works at the beginning of the year to enter data into our student directory. This is an easy data entry volunteer opportunity that you can do from the comfort of your home, at whatever time works best for you!
The Yearbook Committee is looking forward to featuring fantastic photos of our little polar bears in action! We strive to capture and preserve precious moments to be enjoyed for years to come. Help gather pictures from the community, and then design, order, and distribute the yearbook!
Volunteer opportunities within the Yearbook Committee include:
Page Designer: Yearbook page designers use the Entourage yearbook website to design a page or pages for a grade level and/or miscellaneous pages after school photos have been added by the Editors. A designer helps gather photos from the grade level, may help get the word out about sales, and selects photos from those uploaded to include on pages. If you have designed a card or book online, this will be very easy to pick up, but this is also user-friendly website for those learning for the first time! The company we use has templates and pre-loaded designs, while still including the ability to make our yearbook unique with graphics and designs. We try to pair volunteers with pages for grade levels they have a student in. Time commitment includes an introductory zoom later this fall, check-in zoom this winter, and may range 2-5 hours this winter depending on how many pages a volunteer helps design. Simply log-in and work on a page when you like! Yearbook committee volunteers receive one free yearbook for their time!
Assistant Editor: Yearbook assistant editor will do design functions too, but the current co-chairs hope to train a volunteer (or two) who will be at Poplar Bridge for a few more years to be ready to take over the yearbook process as the co-chairs' students transition out from the school in a few years. Ideally, the co-chairs will take a step back while still at PB to be able to mentor the new editor(s) through the process. An assistant editor will also learn about the yearbook template setup online, how to use the site to flow student photos, school staff communications, and the planning process. The time commitment would be a few zooms in the fall to introduce and loop in for the setup process and can then range 2-5 hours for design work and other tasks in the winter. We aim to have yearbooks fully designed and submitted around the spring break timeframe, delivered in early May and to the school for distribution mid-May. Yearbook volunteers receive one free yearbook!
Not ready to join the committee, but still want to help? Share your photos from classroom activities, celebrations, school projects, field trips and events. Send your photos to info@poplarbridgepta.com, and note the grade and teacher represented. (Note: Photos must be school-related activities on campus or on field trips only.)
Help maintain our outdoor learning spaces and keep them beautiful by weeding, watering, and spreading mulch when needed. This is a great volunteer opportunity for the whole family!
Help us identify, foster, and establish mutually beneficial relationships with our community residents and business partners, while working together to improve our school and our neighborhood. Have a business? Let us know if you’d be interested in being a sponsor to our school.
Help us translate important PTA messages from English to Spanish and/or Somali. You don't need to write the messages, just translate them. If you're fluent in either of these languages and can ensure the messages are clear and easy to understand for our communities, we'd love to utilize your skills!
Are you an accountant and willing to donate your expertise by filing our nonprofit taxes? Are you experienced in grant writing and want to help us find and apply for grant opportunities? Tell us about your special skills that you'd like to share with the PTA!
If you don’t want to sign up for any specific volunteer opportunities, but would still like to be notified as volunteering needs arise.
